It might be useful to put a notecard together for new people explaining the different ways they can find out where they are supposed to be at what times, what is going on, etc.
I've been playing GOHA for 2.5 months.
So far, group notices seem to be sent out for:
- Matches
- Scrimmages
- Requests for subs
- Rookie Practices
- What's going on today
- Rule changes
- Requests to behave, etc
Other sources of information about what's happening appear to be:
- These forums
- The website homepage
- Facebook
- Word of mouth
- GOHA group chat
I only just now was pointed to the fact that there is also a scheduling system built into the website that I can check, and that apparently prompts me for responses at the top of the page (it looked like an Ad all this time, my eyes ignored it).
As a new player, I can attest that it would be very helpful if I knew coming in the *one* place I can reliably look for information. I *think* that is the Season Schedule page (then I can click through to just find my team's schedule), and I can count on that.
I was (however unintentionally) trained over the summer to rely upon group notices, because they told me regularly where to be, and I didn't have to remember to check for them - they were "pushed" to me, which made it easy.
All the other methods either require my going out and finding the information, or happening to be online at the time a chat is taking place. As a player, the Group Notices are the *easiest* way to know what is happening.
The website's Scheduling system is definitely the coolest. I will try to make it a habit to check that, and the forums, and the site homepage on a regular basis.
My suggestion is that new players get some sort of guidance on all of this - it is a lot to understand. The website has a LOT of links, and it is easy to get overwhelmed searching through all of it without a guide.
I'm not sure exactly what that guide should look like, or in what form it should come, but it would be helpful to us noobs :))

Group notices are often sent out pregame - and that is on the team captains and assistants of course... but this site will always have your next game and the calendar for the week ahead.
When in doubt - hit the website and you can't go wrong!
There's that nifty attendance feature you mentioned at the page top to tell you when your next game is. Your team page will have your team's upcoming games specifically listed, as well.
As we go into the regular season the S11 schedule in its entirety will be posted here, on the lower part of the main page for you refer to. You can even copy it to an inworld notecard - I always do. And yes, as we get to that point, we'll send out a notice in GOHA group reminding everyone where to look. 
Your captain will always have all game info and updates. The smartest thing a new player can do with ANY question about GOHA is go to your captain, or division manager. It's what we're here for!
Always ask if you need help or clarification. It's never a bother! |

Hey Kemmi  It is true that GOHA sends out a lot of information and in various sources. The reason I tend to post things in multiple places, personally, is because of the difficulty in online communication. Some examples:
--Some people have Group Notices checked "Off" in-world, so they don't get any group notices at all.
--In spite of website info being posted around, many times it seems new members don't find the website for a long time. Some just don't remember or prefer to read it.
--Group chat is highly unreliable and laggy, and also only available if people are online. We've been reverting to using more notices because Group Chat has essentially been "broken" for over a year.
--The website here is the best place to come for the current schedules. I also send out a notecard in-game with the complete season schedule, and post it on FB.
--Offline IMs get capped quickly and people miss important IMs or Notices. I am sure I miss getting a lot of messages due to that problem of capping.
It is kind of intimidating sometimes, all the sources of information.
Recently Dyz has made a big improvement in this by combining needed landmarks, website information, equipment, etc with the new kiosks at all the rinks. So this is a big help with managing and organizing neccessary links all in one place.
Another brand new information assistant that was just developed was an Events Sign which will be at all the rinks. It tells you what games are currently in progress, what the score is, and offers you a place to teleport right to it. It tells you if there is an event going on, or if the ice is free to be used. It is incredible! This should be very helpful during the transition time for GOHA members too as everyone gets used to having to go to different rinks for games.
For things like Ref Schedules, Game changes, Etc: Ideally, I'd love to have less places to have to post new information. Much less work! Generally I just try to cover aLL the bases so that I feel more confident the message is going out. But I think your best bet for knowing what is going on with schedules and updates is the website here. I keep it pretty regularly updated. You can also set your preferences to get email from the website with game reminders.
Anyone else have further suggestions? Anything I can do to increase the effectiveness of, or streamline communications, helps. |

Since group notices are much looked at, would it be helpful if we combined as much of the information as possible into ONE daily group notice? This would require some good organizer skillz, me and KAtia and Six and Ashlene would need to all confer and make sure the sender has all the updated info for the day, but maybe if we go back to communicating all in one notice:
Rookie game: Time/Place
NA games (and who's reffing):
Euro games (and who's reffing):
Other special events:
This wouldn't cut out all the notices but would combine a few. Until group chat is reliable again we'd still be needing to send notices for Subs and Scrims. |

Usually, since Six or myself is usually online early in the morning one of us will send out a block notice with the days events. The rookie notice that is sent out later in the day is needed, to help remind the new people around that they need to come check us out and as the season gets started we'll probably even use group chat to bring people to the training sessions. |

This is driven automatically by the main schedule, so the data will always match. The only difference is readability and the option to filter.
