I just thought I would share this little snippet of my real life with you all..
I was at netball the other night and we are about to play the last game of our winter season, it is customary to partake in a social event... normally drinks, food and general merriment... well until someone decided last year that we should do things like a 27 mile canoe weekend, abseil, jump out of an airplane (no I didnt jump out of an airplane there are some things I draw the line at). So anyway the end of season social is upon us and Im thinking its going to require me to dress up and head into town for a few social beverages... that is until someone mentions the (I) word... Yes they want me to go Ice Skating..
my response - "over my dead body" "no way, no how" "There is no way you will get me on a pair of ice skates" "I'll sit on the sides and watch" see 27miles in a canoe is okay ice skating is a big no no.. This just goes to show my ice hockey enthusiasm begins and ends with the flick of a computer switch... GOHA rules

LOL cool Viv!

Well, this is a good time to let new folks know, you don't HAVE to have any real life hockey experience or even know how to skate. Think of it this way, no one snail races or simboards in real life either. All you need is an enthusiasm for the game, good sense of competition and wanting to find something fun to do in Second Life. We have some folks who play some amateur real life hockey, many who don't, some with real life disabilities, we even have a real life mascot. (Bet you can't guess who) So if you're just finding us and feel intimidated please don't. We'll help you to quickly learn the scripted game play and rules and we love getting new folks involved. Otherwise it winds up just another season of listening to me and Nic do gesture wars.

I still get upset when RL players don't get a penalty for getting in the goalie's crease. Sheesh.

lol me too, Anh. After all the previous years of hockey obsession, the recent SL hockey crease rule has invaded my consciousness, and it's a running joke when we're at the AHL games now.

Yeah. There's still certain situations in which a goalie interference can be called, but our crease rule was developed way back in S1 due to lag and other SL issues. If a shot is taken too close to the goal detector, it almost always triggers it. So you'll see the GOHA goalie crease is about 3 times the size of a real life crease. We've messed with the size and shape a lot over the years trying to get the right size. This one's pretty good, though the sides are questionable.

In real life, you'll often see players inside the crease, both defensive and offensive.

lol, there used to be a rule in the NHL about not being allowed in the crease. They instituted a rule that stated you couldn't be in the crease when a goal was scored or the goal would be disallowed. So much time was wasted in constant video reviewing to see if a foot was in the crease, they abandoned the idea after just one season :).

I don't know why you are so scared of RL skating though. Nothing beats screaming down the ice with a puck on your stick and the wind at your back. Shinny hockey FTW.

As one who has never skated in her whole life, I'd be screaming from the broken ankle... elbow... tailbone...

Spent 4 years as the goalie on my college club team. Good times. A bit too long ago and I haven't been on the ice hardly at all since. Still feels weird skating without goalie pads.

Remembers Stanley Cup playoffs when goals were disallowed for having a toe in the crease. lmao!DV3z
